Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield isn't just "salty" in 2025. While he may be talking smack to fans, laughing at these situations to reporters, or simply speaking with pure confidence, he is backing all that up.

Mayfield may not be leading the NFL in many statistical categories among quarterbacks, but he is still considered one of the best in the league. In fact, he now tops the latest quarterback rankings from NFL.com.

According to NFL.com writer Nick Shook, Mayfield leads the way. He has also jumped over Patrick Mahomes and five spots en route to his top ranking.

Shook broke down Mayfield's stats, along with his contemporaries, which read:

"2025 stats: 5 games | 65.1 pct | 1283 pass yds | 7.5 ypa | 10 pass TDs | 1 INT | 144 rush yds | 0 rush TDs | 3 fumbles"

Mayfield's 1,283 passing yards are good for fourth in the NFL among qualified quarterbacks, his 10 touchdowns is good for tied for third with Lamar Jackson, Dak Prescott, and Tua Tagovailoa.

What this list does not cover are the intangibles, like Mayfield leading the Buccaneers to multiple fourth-quarter comebacks in 2025. In fact, the star signal caller leads the NFL with four fourth-quarter comebacks.

The Buccaneers are 4-1 on the season, with their only loss coming against the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Even in that game, Tampa Bay nearly came back in the fourth, but lost with a 31-25 final score.

Mayfield is pumping confidence and grit into his team, and that could be a major reason why Shook has placed the Buccaneers passer over passing yards leader Matthew Stafford, and touchdown leader Jared Goff.

Everything appears to be working out in the Buccaneers' favor. While the team has yet to make it to the big show, Mayfield's leadership could propel the team far into the postseason. Especially if he continues to play the way that he has thus far this season.
