After the Chargers' abysmal performance in the Wild Card round, Los Angeles decided it was time to go in a different direction for their offense. Roman has been with the team for the past two seasons.

The Chargers not only let go of Roman, but also of offensive line coach Mike Devlin. This move comes on the heels of their 16-3 loss to the Patriots. In the Chargers' lone two playoff games under Roman as the offensive coordinator, they have collected a total of 15 points.

The firing certainly doesn't come out of left field, as head coach Jim Harbaugh hinted at it after Sunday's loss. When addressing the media after the loss, Harbaugh sidestepped questions about Roman’s job security, offering no clear answer.

“Right now, I don’t have the answers. … We’re going to look at that, and everything," Harbaugh said.

Roman has been Harbaugh's only offensive coordinator in the NFL. Although their history dates back to 2001, Roman has been with Harbaugh as his offensive coordinator since his time with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14 and the Chargers for the past two seasons.

With Harbaugh's job far from being in jeopardy, the 2026 season will be his first without Roman as his offensive coordinator.

This move was deemed necessary as the Chargers' offense declined significantly. They were ranked 22nd in points scored and 12th in total offense this past season. On top of that, the Chargers were plagued by poor offensive line play and injuries. LA also struggled mightily in the passing game despite arguably having the most talented quarterback in the league, Justin Herbert.

The Chargers are now 0-2 in the playoffs under Harbaugh and 0-3 with Herbert under center when the lights are brightest. The Chargers will look to make a massive hire at the offensive coordinator position as they move forward to exorcise their demons in January.
