The Washington Commanders shocked everyone when they broke out for a 12-5 record in Jayden Daniels' rookie season in 2024.
That year, Daniels threw for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, along with 861 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, and a 69% completion percentage. He won Offensive Rookie of the Year and earned his first Pro Bowl nod.
But last season, injuries limited Daniels to just seven games and the Commanders fell to 5-12. His top receiver, Terry McLaurin, who had just posted 1,096 receiving yards and a career-high 13 receiving touchdowns during Daniels' rookie year, appeared in just 10 games and his production dropped off too.

With Deebo Samuel, Washington's leading receiver last year, now a free agent, speculation is mounting that the Commanders might be in the market for another top wide receiver.
On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter hinted at who that might be, pointing to four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs.
"I think the Commanders will definitely be in play for Stefon Diggs; I think that's a viable landing spot," Schefter said. "Stefon Diggs went to Maryland. They could use another wide receiver. He would be a great alternative. I could see the Commanders being in play for him."

After tearing his ACL in 2024 with the Houston Texans, Diggs spent the 2025 season with the New England Patriots and had one of the better seasons of any receiver in the league. He racked up 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 85 catches, leading the Patriots in yards, receptions, and targets (102).
It was the seventh 1,000-yard season of his NFL career, and he played a key role in leading New England to the Super Bowl as Drake Maye's top target. Him bringing that production over to a Washington team with a quarterback like Daniels makes too much sense, especially with being from Maryland and a former Terrapin.

McLaurin is healthy, but behind him on the depth chart sit Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane, Dyami Brown, Treylon Burks, and incoming third-round rookie Antonio Williams.
Adding Diggs to that room would give Daniels a proven No. 2 option who can make plays in space underneath — and one with invaluable playoff experience.
