The Dallas Cowboys have not been able to keep their defensive stars healthy for most of the 2024 NFL season. Various players have dealt with significant injuries, and have not been available all at the same time.

More news: Cowboys All-Pro CB DaRon Bland to be Activated Off IR

DeMarcus Lawrence is currently on IR with a foot injury, Micah Parsons is dealing with a high ankle sprain, and DaRon Bland continues to be out while working his way back from a stress fracture. The hope was that Parsons and Bland would be ready by Week 9, but the latest injury report indicates they will not be.

To make matters worse, cornerback Trevon Diggs has missed practice with a new injury.

According to the team's injury report, shared by The Athletic Jon Machota: Bland, Diggs, and Parsons did not suit up for practice.

Parsons is not all that surprising, as Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy revealed the star defensive end is still rehabbing his ankle. Bland was just activated off IR, but that does not mean he would be ready to go by Week 9.

Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs

...

What is most surprising about this list is Diggs missing his second practice in a row. Diggs revealed that he was dealing with some hamstring tightness, and he has an official calf injury on the report.

The Cowboys have been without Bland all season, and Parsons for the past few games, and could be facing a reality with no Diggs. This would be devastating to the defense, who is set to face off against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons are dangerous passers who utilize the arm of quarterback Kirk Cousins and tight end Kyle Pitts. The Cowboys would need some steep secondary help to stop the pair from rifling off big plays.

If Diggs cannot suit up, the team will rely on Andrew Booth Jr., Caelan Carson, and C.J. Goodwin to step in as the starters.

Dallas has not had the hot start they usually do, dropping to 3-4 on the season after losing to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football. Though 3-4 is not a record "death sentence", the Cowboys are falling farther behind in the NFC East.

The Commanders are in first place with a 6-2 record and the Philadelphia Eagles are right behind with a 5-2 record. The Cowboys need to start winning some games if they want to climb back into NFC East crown contention. They need to win games even more so if they are to compete with the other playoff-hopeful NFC teams.
