The Dallas Cowboys had a much-needed bye week, but they are still very banged up on the defensive side of the ball. DeMarcus Lawrence, Jordan Phillips, and Marshawn Kneeland are all on IR. Micah Parsons also missed Week 6 due to a high ankle sprain.

Parsons did have the benefit of having an additional week off via the bye to heal up. However, that is not a guarantee that he will suit up against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Parsons himself has revealed more about his status for the upcoming week. So far, he is optimistic that he can attempt to hit the field.

Parsons spoke to reporters, revealing his status for the upcoming week is "in the air."

"My hopes are always very high," Parsons said. "I love great challenges. I love being able to beat the odds. I'm going to put this up to my trainers and my coaching staff."

Parsons is always attempting to push through injuries and return to the field, but the Cowboys might want to ensure that the star defensive end does not get in his own way in terms of returning to the field too soon. Parsons did state that he is going to leave it up to his trainers and the coaching staff, which is smart.

The Cowboys will need all the defense help they can get on Sunday, as the 49ers have a solid offense. Quarterback Brock Purdy, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and tight end George Kittle can already cause all kinds of havoc for the Cowboys' defense. That's not to mention surprising star running back Jordan Mason.

Parsons being back will be a huge help for the pass rush, though he might not be fully healed from his high ankle sprain. It would be smart for Dallas to allow Parsons far more time to heal, which could mean he will have to wait to play until Week 9.

This is just speculation, as it sounds like Parsons is ready to get back to work. However, saying that his status is "in the air" is not going to inspire confidence in terms of him being fully healed from his ankle sprain.

Depending on the severity of the sprain, Parsons could be out for more games. So far, he has been out for the past two games and has also had the bye week to heal more. Hopefully, he will be ready to play in Week 8.
