Sitting at 3-5, the Dallas Cowboys might look as though they're a team that is closer to selling than buying at the trade deadline on Tuesday.

One player who could net the Cowboys a decent return would be wide receiver George Pickens. The Cowboys sent a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick before the 2025 season.

Pickens had a breakout year for Dallas last season, catching 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. Through eight games this season, his numbers have come down a little bit. He had 39 receptions for 533 yards and two touchdowns.

When speaking to reporters on Thursday, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott gave his response to those who think Dallas should trade Pickens, currently playing under the franchise tag. Prescott believes Pickens will receive more targets.

“People say a lot of things I don’t believe, so I’m not listening to that one, either," Prescott said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “George is a great teammate. And I say that in the sense of, he’s gonna do whatever is asked, he’s gonna do whatever is called.

"If it’s to go block, if it’s to just go run a guy off, he’s gonna do that. He believes in just doing the right thing, and the ball will come his way at times. And so, that’s not on George.”

Earlier this week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones argued that Pickens needed to see the ball come his way more often. Pickens has the second-most targets (62) on the Cowboys behind CeeDee Lamb's 92 targets. Lamb has 60 receptions for 709 yards and six touchdowns.

The Cowboys don't appear ready to give up on the season. They'll need Pickens on the roster if they hope to keep up in the NFC East. Given the problems on defense, Dallas needs to keep every playmaker around who can help put up points.

The outcome of the Cowboys' contest against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday could be big before the trade deadline on Tuesday.
