With training camp underway, Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Joe Milton III continues his role as understudy to star QB Dak Prescott.

Milton, who is entering his third season in the NFL, recently appeared on "Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams," where Adams asked him what he has learned while he's been in Dallas with Prescott. According to Milton, one major trait has stood out the most to him.

"The main one that sticks out to me, not too long ago, is just his discipline. Dak don't let anything get in the way his focus. Dak don't let anything get in the way of his family, as far as his daughters," Milton told Adams.

Milton also said that Prescott is on "another level" when it comes to him knowing the playbook so well, whether it's plays from previous seasons or even new ones in the playbook that their coach is talking about.

"It's just so much that you can learn from him, but I'll say his discipline. His focus throughout the week is like top-notch," he said, adding later, "I'm trying to process everything he processes."

Milton joined the NFL as the New England Patriots' sixth-round pick out of Tennessee in 2024, initially spending his first season with the Patriots and playing in one NFL game. Last season, New England traded him with a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Cowboys for Dallas' 2025 fifth-round pick.

Since joining Dallas, Milton has learned from one of the top quarterbacks in the league, Prescott, and has played in four regular-season games. Across those games, he completed 15 of 24 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed five times for 50 yards, averaging 10 yards per rushing play in Dallas.

Interestingly, the new Madden NFL 27 video game recently listed Milton with the strongest throw power of all quarterbacks in the league. That's high praise for the backup, who Adams said she believes will eventually get his chance to shine, mentioning how former Green Bay Packers backup Malik Willis is now the starter for the Miami Dolphins.

The Cowboys head into this season looking for an improved turnaround with Prescott as their starter. Last season, the team went 7-9 and missed the playoffs. That last reached the postseason in the 2023-24 season, and their fans are certainly hoping to see that trend end in 2026-27.

Dallas will take on the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, Aug. 15, in their first preseason game. The Cowboys' first regular-season game is on Sunday, Sept. 13, as they visit Jaxson Dart and the New York Giants.
