Things continue to get worse for the Jacksonville Jaguars, as star tight end Evan Engram has been listed as doubtful for the team's crucial matchup this weekend against the Houston Texans. Engram has missed the last few weeks due to his hamstring injury but there is hope he could finally return in Week 5.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news on social media.

Engram played in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins, catching one pass for five yards. He hasn't played since then, after experiencing an issue while warming up before Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns.

The veteran tight end was ruled out and it has been touch and go since. He was a massive part of the Jaguars' offensive attack last season, putting up 114 catches for 963 yards and four touchdowns.

Engram was named as an alternate for the 2023 Pro Bowl roster for his efforts. His absence in the lineup has played a huge part in the struggles of this offense this season.

Engram gives quarterback Trevor Lawrence a security blanket to throw the ball, so his presence is missed on offense. Jacksonville will have to find a way to avoid going 0-4 without the services of their key pass-catcher.

Even without Engram in the lineup, Jacksonville still shouldn't be struggling as much as it has. The Jags have wide receivers Gabe Davis, Christian Kirk, and Brian Thomas Jr. for Lawrence to throw to, making their offensive issues a little concerning.

Entering Week 4, Lawrence is ranked in the bottom third of the league in almost every statistical category. He is 25th in passing yards, 26th in passer rating, and 30th in completion percentage.

On the year, he has thrown for 560 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Normally one of the better signal-callers in the NFL, the 2024 season hasn't been kind to Lawrence so far.

Going back to last season, Lawrence has lost eight of their last nine games overall. Jacksonville lost five of six games to close the season last year, missing the playoffs.

If they want to avoid dropping down to 0-4, it will take a total team effort. Playing the Texans doesn't make things any easier, as Houston will be looking for blood themselves.

This game against the Texans will be a massive test for the Jaguars to see if they have what it takes to turn things around. If they can't, massive changes are likely coming to this organization sooner rather than later.
