The hire is sure to send shockwaves through the NFL world, and the news has already been touched on by one of the most legendary Jets players. "Broadway" Joe Namath has reacted on X to the monumental hire.
"I'm hoping all nyjets fans are as thrilled as my family and I are that Aaron Glenn is our new Head Coach. I wish the season would start next week!" Namath's post reads.

Namath being excited is warranted, as Glenn has become one of the most respected coaches in the NFL. He was expected to land a head coach position in this hiring cycle after spending the last four seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Lions.
Glenn has been instrumental in rebounding a Lions franchise that had struggled for decades. With Glenn, former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and head coach Dan Campbell working in tandem, the Lions transformed into one of the best NFC teams in the last two seasons.
The Lions, unfortunately, lost in the playoffs in 2023 and 2024, but a huge part of their success is attributed to the efforts of Johnson and Glenn. With Glenn being hired by the Jets, he joins Johnson, who was hired by the Chicago Bears as their new head coach.
The departure of both Glenn and Johnson will leave the Lions' coaching staff severely lacking, and both might want to pull some assistant coaches from Detroit to join their new staff.
Either way, Glenn will not be leading a team that has struggled in recent years. The Jets have not made the playoffs since 2010, but do have the benefit of having a talented team on both sides of the ball.
New York also has a top 10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and will likely be looking to add a much-needed franchise quarterback. For now, the organization has impressed one of the most legendary quarterbacks that has played for the storied franchise.
