Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner wasn't keen on the rumors flying around about flipping Brock Purdy for Sam Darnold next season. Purdy will be eligible for a contract extension after the season ends.

Warner shared his opinion on the trade rumors via 95.7 The Game, a local Bay area radio station.

"Let's forget about these past two years because this year hasn't been as good, and then the same with Sam Darnold," Warner began. "Let's forget about everything else he's done in the league because he's been wildly inconsistent, and although he's shown glimpses he's never been able to put it together. Now he's having this incredible year in Minnesota, and we're all ready to say, let's flop them. It's so funny how we have such a recency bias on so many things in this league."

It was evident Warner disagreed with NFL Network's Brian Baldinger who believes the San Francisco 49ers should flip Purdy for Darnold.

"I'd flip him for Sam Darnold," Baldinger said. "Let's just think about Sam for a second. He sat there as a backup all year and learned how a first-class franchise game plans. He saw that for the first time in his life. Now he's with Kevin O'Connell who's an elite play-caller with a very, very good offense and he's flourishing. And Minnesota doesn't have to commit anything to him right now. They have a quarterback they drafted. They don't have to give him top-flight money. Or they could trade him. I would be having a conversation with Minnesota to see what it would take to get Sam Darnold back. He's bigger and stronger than Brock. Or can you play with both of them and have a competition? I would be interested to see what it would take to get Sam Darnold."

The rumors about the potential trade scenario quickly emerged after NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Brock Purdy expects to reset the quarterback market and become the highest-paid player in the league.

The news shocked the football world as many speculated Purdy wouldn't ask the 49ers for much money given his humble demeanor. However, Pelissero believes Purdy is aiming to exceed Dak Prescott's massive contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

If the report is true, the 49ers will have to make some serious decisions regarding Purdy, who many believed was San Francisco's next franchise quarterback.

If Purdy's ambitions for a landmark deal are true, more trouble looms in the Bay.
