To begin the 2025 NFL season, the Las Vegas Raiders have gone 2-4 through the first six weeks. It hasn't been the start that the team was hoping for, but they aren't out of the playoff hunt. Geno Smith also hasn't played up to expectations.
After making the aggressive trade to acquire Smith from the Seattle Seahawks in the offseason, the Raiders were hoping that they would be able to finally close the book on their quarterback questions. That has not been the case.
Smith has had a turnover problem to begin his tenure in Las Vegas. He has completed 66.1 percent of his pass attempts for 1,350 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. At this point, he leads the NFL in interceptions.

With the struggles that he has had so far this season, there have been some calls for the Raiders to move on. Could they move on this season? Is it more likely that Las Vegas could bring in a different quarterback in the offseason?

A new prediction has been made about the Raiders' quarterback situation that would be bad news for Smith's future.
ESPN's Jordan Reid has released a new 2026 mock draft. In his mock draft, he has Las Vegas taking South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers with the No. 9 overall pick.
"Geno Smith hasn't worked out so far in Las Vegas, as the new Raiders QB has thrown a league-high 10 interceptions and ranks 28th in QBR (38.2)," Reid wrote. "Vegas could be on the hunt for another signal-caller, and the 6-3, 240-pound Sellers is intriguing. The skill set is awesome. But there are mixed opinions on Sellers, who has struggled in South Carolina's disappointing offense. He hasn't played Round 1-caliber ball in 2025, but as an NFC assistant GM told me, 'The traits will convince someone to take him early.' If that's the Raiders, they'll need to show patience."
Sellers would be a very intriguing target for a team like the Raiders. He may not take over for Smith right off the bat, but he would be the clear quarterback of the future for the franchise.

Las Vegas has to figure something out at the quarterback position. What the franchise has had for some years now is getting the job done. Perhaps Sellers would be that guy.
Only time will tell, but this is a scenario worth keeping a close eye on as the season moves forward.
