Las Vegas Raiders superstar Maxx Crosby underwent knee surgery to trim his meniscus last week, following the Raiders' decision to shut him down for the final two games of the regular season.

But is it possible there is more to the story?

After the procedure, Crosby shared a photo of himself laying in a hospital bed with a bulky brace on his knee, which has former NFL team doctor David Chao wondering if there was more damage to Crosby's knee than everyone is assuming.

“In his recovery bed he has a knee brace on. Not just a wrap. Knee braces are not typically used after simple arthroscopic clean up surgery.” Chao said. “Why the knee brace? We don’t know for sure, but it certainly opens up the question that it could have been more than a meniscectomy cleanup. Is it a meniscus repair with suturing, which takes longer recovery? All sorts of theories can be in place."

Controversy ensued when Las Vegas placed Crosby on injured reserve before the team's Week 17 matchup with the New York Giants, and the decision bothered Crosby so much that he left the facility for a few days and didn't return until the Monday after the game.

But perhaps the Raiders were correct in their decision all along?

“Let’s wish the best for Maxx Crosby. He does have a long offseason to recover and maybe this backs up why the Raiders wanted to have this surgery sooner and shut him down for the end of the season," Chao added.

In 15 games this year, Crosby racked up 73 tackles, 10 sacks, an interception, a couple of forced fumbles and six pass defended en route to his fifth straight Pro Bowl selection.

The 28-year-old edge rusher signed a three-year, $107 million extension with Las Vegas last March, a deal that will take him through 2029.

However, with trade speculation surging around Crosby, you do have to wonder if the former fourth-round pick has much longer to go in the desert. For now, though, he is just focused on getting healthy.
