There was talk early in the offseason that Derek Carr, under contract with the New Orleans Saints, could unretire and play for the team or ask for a trade.
That idea hasn't gained steam before training camp started, but another question about the Saints quarterback room has been answered before the preseason begins.
In a post on X, longtime Saints quarterback Taysom Hill revealed he would not play for New Orleans in the upcoming season. The free agent made sure not to specify if he was retiring, but said returning to the Saints would "not be in the cards" for 2026.

"I've taken time this offseason to think carefully about what comes next for my family and me," Hill wrote. "I still don't have a clear answer about what the future holds, but I know that returning to New Orleans is not in the cards.
"As training camp begins, I didn't want my silence to be misinterpreted, and as hard as it is to put into words, I wanted to express my gratitude."
Hill entered the league with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent out of BYU. He joined New Orleans in September of the 2017 season, and remained with the team through the end of last season.
Hill threw for 2,426 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions during his career with the Saints.
Under former New Orleans head coach Sean Payton, Hill played a "joker" role on offense, being used as a runner and receiver in addition to quarterback. He ran for 2,551 yards and 34 touchdowns. He caught 110 passes for 1,034 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Hill isn't sure what he plans to do next, but he wanted to thank New Orleans for supporting him.
"I'm still working through what comes next, but I couldn't move forward without taking the time to say thank you," Hill wrote. "New Orleans, you will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we will always be cheering you on."
If Hill wants to play in the league, he could be an option for the Denver Broncos, where Payton is now the head coach. Denver currently has quarterbacks Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham, and Sam Ehlinger on the 90-man roster.
