It’s been quite the whirlwind 24 hours for the Baltimore Ravens.
The team lost nine key players in free agency — a blow that was somewhat softened because of the expected arrival of star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby.
But fast forward to Tuesday night, and the Ravens backed out of the Crosby blockbuster deal that cost them two first-round picks after the 28-year-old DE reportedly failed his physical.

Many around the league questioned whether Baltimore was really concerned over Crosby’s medicals or if the team panicked and wanted its first-rounders back.

However, the Ravens were prepared to add Crosby to the roster, even reworking star quarterback Lamar Jackson’s contract to make it work, according to Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBS Sports.
“The #Ravens renegotiated Lamar Jackson’s contract YESTERDAY to create more cap room, multiple sources tell me,” Kinkhabwala reported. “They were clearly readying to onboard Maxx Crosby - until the medical assessment made the price of two first round picks too risky.”
Kinkhabwala’s report is big news for Ravens fans, some of whom were wondering what Jackson’s future with the team looked like.

There was some speculation Jackson wanted out of Baltimore after a falling out with former head coach John Harbaugh, and others believed the Ravens didn’t want to commit a massive amount of money to a future with Jackson under center.
However, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports, the deal keeps the two-time MVP in the fold and opens up a large chunk of salary cap space for the Ravens to make some more moves in free agency.
“Ravens have reworked the contract of Lamar Jackson, as @AKinkhabwala also reported,” Schefter added. “Sources say the restructure with Jackson creates about $40 million in salary cap space for the 2026 season. It’s similar to what Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have done this offseason for their teams.”
