The Pittsburgh Steelers just made Aaron Rodgers’ retirement decision a bit more difficult – or easier depending on how you look at it.
The 42-year-old quarterback, who threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions last year, is still mulling whether or not he wants to come back for his 22nd NFL season, and the Steelers pulled off a big-time trade that may have enticed him to commit to one more season.
After locking up wide receiver Alec Pierce to a four-year, $116 million deal on Monday at the start of the NFL’s legal tampering period, the Indianapolis Colts traded fellow receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to the Steelers as part of a late-round pick swap, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Pittsburgh promptly locked up Pittman Jr. to a multiyear contract.
“The #Steelers are giving WR Michael Pittman Jr. a new three-year, $59 million deal, source says,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported.
The trade is great news for Rodgers as Pittman Jr. is a two-time 1,000-yard receiver who’s recorded 80 or more catches in four of his last five seasons. The 28-year-old WR is a high-volume weapon (he’s averaged 129 targets per year since 2021) who can stretch the field and take pressure off DK Metcalf on the opposite side of the field.

In his first season with Pittsburgh after coming over in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks last offseason, Metcalf totaled 59 catches on 99 targets for 850 yards and six touchdowns.
The $132 million wideout carried the Steelers’ passing attack, as he had 28 more catches, 478 more yards, and three more touchdowns than the team’s second-leading WR Calvin Austin III.
