While the 2026 NFL draft class is considered pretty weak at the quarterback position, the same can’t be said for the 2027 class.
Oregon’s Dante Moore, Ohio State’s Julian Sayin, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, LSU’s Sam Leavitt, Texas Tech’s Brendan Sorsby, Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss, and Oklahoma’s John Mateer all could have a first-round grade on them by this time next year.
But there’s one QB who is already the odds-on favorite to go No. 1 overall if he forgoes his senior season, and that’s Texas’ Arch Manning.

Some teams are believed to be already trying to position themselves to tank for Manning next season, and of all the bad teams that could potentially pick near the top of the draft, there’s one team that the Manning family absolutely will not let Arch play for, according to former CBS Sports host and current radio personality Mike Francesca.

“I’ll tell you this, Jet fans — I hate to give you this a year in advance, and it will probably make you hate the Mannings more if you’re a Jet fan and you hate the Mannings already, because remember, Peyton didn’t want to play for the Jets,” Francesca stated.
“They will not let Arch Manning play for the Jets. I’m telling you right now, they will manipulate the draft, they will never let him get drafted by the Jets. You can take that to the bank. I’m telling you right now, a year in advance, I don’t know where he’s going to wind up next year, he’s going to be the first player picked unless something drastic happens.
“But he’s not going to go to the Jets. The Jets aren’t going to wind up with Arch Manning, it’s not going to happen. It’s not going to happen under any circumstances; that family will not allow it. I’m telling you, they will not allow it.”

After a disappointing showing from Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor last season, the Jets addressed their QB problem by signing Las Vegas Raiders castoff Geno Smith in a move many have claimed was done to help ensure New York lands the No. 1 pick next year.
If the Jets end the season with the No. 1 overall pick, there’s a good chance that Manning doesn’t declare for the draft and he waits until after his senior season to enter the 2028 draft.
If there’s no possible way for Manning to avoid the Jets at No. 1 overall, it’s possible he could do what his uncle Eli did back in 2004 when he was drafted by the then-San Diego Chargers and force a trade to a more desirable destination.
