With Week 18 of the NFL season approaching, the Dallas Cowboys made a shocking decision to release former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs.

It has been a drama-filled season for Diggs, who spent much of the year battling injuries. Even when healthy, there were ongoing questions about when — or if — he would be available to play for a Cowboys defense that has ranked among the league’s worst.

From a financial standpoint, the move made sense for Dallas, as the Cowboys had already paid out all of Diggs’ guaranteed money and the relationship between the team and the cornerback had clearly deteriorated over the past several weeks. Green Bay will now be responsible for Diggs’ Week 18 game check, which totals $472,000, along with an additional $58,823 if he suits up.

Diggs’ former Cowboys teammate Micah Parsons reacted to the news almost immediately. Parsons, who was traded to the Packers earlier this offseason in one of the NFL’s most notable deals, kept his response short and direct.

“We’re back,” Parsons posted on X.

While Diggs’ future in Green Bay could be short-term or extend for years to come, he will not be playing alongside Parsons in Week 18 or throughout the postseason, as Parsons suffered a torn ACL in Week 15 against the Denver Broncos.

Diggs appeared in just 21 games over the past two seasons due to a knee injury, leaving his potential impact with the Packers uncertain. Still, the move adds experience and brings in a player who was once regarded as one of the league’s premier defensive talents.
