The Minnesota Vikings are fresh off a big Week 5 win over the Cleveland Browns in London. While it was tough and go for a bit, Carson Wentz was able to orchestrate a game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter to move the Vikings to 3-2.

Looking ahead at the future, Minnesota will have a bye week in Week 6. J.J. McCarthy should be ready to play by Week 7 when the Vikings are scheduled to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a big-time matchup at home.

Wentz has played well since stepping into the starting role when McCarthy went down with a high-ankle sprain. His play has caused a lot of questions in Minnesota about who should be the starting quarterback moving forward. Kevin O'Connell has not given any indication about which signal caller he will choose.

While the quarterback controversy is the talk of the NFL rumor mill, Wentz spoke out with a very strong message about it.

Despite all of the uncertainty about his future, Wentz is focused solely on the present. He has been enjoying the chance to play and knows that he can't control who will be the Vikings' starter in Week 7.

“I’ve done plenty of looking ahead in my life. I’m done doing that,” he said. “I’m very much trying to live in the moment and appreciate the moment right now. I’m gonna enjoy this one, get healthy, and see what happens.”

In the three games he has started for Minnesota, the 32-year-old quarterback has completed 69 percent of his pass attempts for 759 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also chipped in 29 yards on the ground.

McCarthy started the first two games of the 2025 NFL season for the Vikings. In those appearances, he threw for 301 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions, while completing 58.5 percent of his passes and running for 50 yards and another score.

There is no question that McCarthy is the face of the future in Minnesota. However, does he give the Vikings the best chance to win right now? That is the dilemma facing O'Connell and the coaching staff.

Only time will tell what decision Minnesota makes. It won't be an easy one, as both quarterbacks are capable of playing at a high level.

Regardless of the final decision, Wentz is simply focused on enjoying the opportunity he has been given and controlling what he can control. He has been a true professional and will continue to be just that, whether he moves forward as the starter or not.
