The Indianapolis Colts called Philip Rivers in desperate times this season. Should the Denver Broncos phone Tom Brady?
The former NFL star Richard Sherman must view the Broncos as totally desperate as they head into a tough AFC Championship game against the Houston Texans or the New England Patriots.
No matter who the opponent is, the Broncos are going to face a difficult challenge. It doesn’t get any easier now that the starting quarterback, Bo Nix, is sidelined with a fractured ankle. The star quarterback suffered his season-ending setback just before the Broncos kicked the game-winning field goal against the Buffalo Bills.

“Who can Sean Payton Call to play QB with only a week before the Broncos play in the AFC championship game?” Sherman asked his followers on X. “One call he could try to make that may break the internet is Brady. Doubt he would do it but boy would that make for great TV!”

The post garnered over one million impressions. Clearly, fans would be intrigued to see the 48-year-old quarterback put down the broadcast mic, toss on his shoulder pads, helmet, and cape to come and try to save the Broncos on the AFC title stage—a place Brady is very familiar with—but the idea is so far-fetched at this point in time.
Brady played until he was 45. The last time he took the field was during the 2022 NFL season, when he played quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The veteran quarterback closed out his career by completing 66 percent of his passes for 4,694 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
That year, the Buccaneers posted an 8-9 record. In the two years before that, Brady notched winning records with the Bucs. He was even in the MVP conversation during his second-to-last run in 2021. The Buccaneers didn’t repeat as champions after winning it all in 2020, but Brady had two more playoff runs to close out his career.
Will the Broncos Make a Call to Anybody?
At this point, the Broncos just have a week to get prepared for their big game. It might not be worth trying to reach out to a passer who hasn’t played in some time. Jarrett Stidham has been with the team all year long, staying ready for his opportunity.
Now that it’s approaching, the Broncos seem to be instilling plenty of confidence in the 29-year-old career-backup.
Sherman is right; Brady with the Broncos in 2026 would be must-see TV. However, the reality is Jarrett Stidham will get the opportunity to try and lead the Broncos to the Super Bowl.
