The Chicago Bears shocked many around the NFL on Thursday when they traded Pro Bowl wide receiver DJ Moore along with a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a 2026 second-rounder.
Moore, who’s just two years removed from his career year in 2023 in which he totaled 96 receptions, 1,364 yards, and eight touchdowns, was made expendable by the presence of second-year wideout Rome Odunze (44 catches, 661 yards, six TDs in 2025) and the emergence of rookie Luther Burden (47 catches, 652 yards, two TDs in 2025).
The 28-year-old Moore now joins former MVP quarterback Josh Allen in Buffalo and immediately becomes the Bills’ new No. 1 receiver. He joins a WR room that also includes Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, and Tyrell Shavers.

Most feel the deal is a win-win for both clubs as Buffalo finally gets Allen a new, reliable weapon, and the Bears add another pick in the top 64. Just minutes after the deal was announced, several notable analysts took to social media to share their reaction to the deal.
“To depart from (Caleb Williams) to go to Josh Allen is a beautiful thing,” ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said. “That’s not a bad thing at all, that’s not a drop off. … I’m happy for him, I’m happy for Buffalo.”
ESPN’s Jason McCourty added: “When you look at Josh Allen and Joe Brady and this offense and what they like to do, DJ Moore gives them another weapon on the outside … but there’s also the screen game that Buffalo loves to run. Get the ball in his hands early and let him do the damage. It also take smore pressure off Josh Allen, where I felt like later on in the season, we saw that version of him feeling like he had to do so much. Getting a guy like DJ Moore with Shakir — he’s another guy that does that well — it allows (the screen game to flourish).”

“DJ Moore felt gone the minute they drafted Luther Burden. Josh Allen gets a bit of what Diggs used to do for him, even if a lesser version,” NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal stated.
“I don’t love it to be honest with you,” CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco declared. “Desperation is in play here for the Bills. They obviously need to get a wide receiver, they need to get what they think is a No. 1 wide receiver. … [Moore’s] best year was two years ago … he’s going to be 29, the salary this year is $27 million guaranteed — that’s a lot of money considering who he is. He wasn’t a No. 1 wide receiver a year ago.”
“DJ Moore brought me so much joy in a #Bears uniform. Hate to see him go, but I’ll be a fan of his no matter what jersey he wears. Thank you for everything, DJ. 🙏🏽,” Walter Payton’s son Jarrett wrote on X.
