The Kansas City Chiefs lost their second game of the season on Sunday, falling 28-24 to their AFC West rival, the Denver Broncos.
While the Chiefs had their chances to win in the final seconds, a penalty the referees called against Kansas City certainly factored into the outcome. The Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes threw an apparent touchdown to Rashee Rice, but the referees waved it off due to a penalty they called.
They called a false start on offensive tackle Jaylon Moore, which was a gut punch for the Chiefs. It took away Rice's potential game-winning touchdown and backed them up five yards. On the Chiefs' final attempt to win, Mahomes was sacked before he could get off another suitable pass.

Following the game, head coach Andy Reid questioned the penalty, indicating he hadn't seen anything beyond Moore moving his head a bit.
Fans weren't happy, including Mahomes' biggest supporter, his wife Brittany Mahomes, who fired off a blunt reaction to the controversial call on social media.

"You can't tell me you call that on a game winning TD, oh wait yeah I can cause it's us," Mahomes' wife wrote on her Instagram Story Sunday night.
"That was the weakest call I have ever seen; you can't tell me otherwise," she wrote.
She drew plenty of criticism for her postgame remarks, particularly on X, although some fans agreed with her assessment.
"Yes I believe the offensive lineman blinked honestly I thought it was a pretty weak call too!" someone commented.
"After years of all the calls going in favor of @chiefs she has the nerve to complain?" one commenter wrote.
"So sad now she knows how the rest of the NFL teams feel it’s called karma," an individual commented.
Another jokingly suggested, "I think this is actually Chris Collinsworth is running a fake Brittany X account."
Patrick Mahomes threw for 321 passing yards and three touchdowns and was also sacked twice in his team's loss. He completed 30 of 41 passes to finish with a 120.1 passer rating amid what feels like a comeback season for the Chiefs.
After Kansas City scored a touchdown in the third quarter, the Broncos outscored them 15-0 in the fourth to get the win. Their defense held up against Mahomes and the Chiefs' goal-line attempts late to secure a significant win over their division rival.
Many critical fans have regularly felt the Chiefs dynasty received the benefit of favorable calls or non-calls in games, and now it seems they believe Kansas City got a taste of their own medicine.
Kansas City will look to bounce back with its next game, which brings a favorable matchup. They'll host the 2-6 New York Jets on Sunday, Nov. 8, with the contest featuring many of their supportive fans at Arrowhead Stadium.
