This is a nightmare situation for the Vikings. After J.J. McCarthy went down with an ankle injury in Week 2, he has not been healthy enough to make it back to the field.
Wentz was called on to replace McCarthy, and he stepped up as the starter in Weeks 3 and 4. Now, Wentz is injured, and the Vikings are down to their third-string passer.
This Browns defense has one of the best pass rushes in the league, and that has been on full display in the matchup. To make matters worse, the Vikings have dealt with multiple injuries to their starting offensive line. Ryan Kelly, for instance, was placed on IR.
It's tough enough to deal with a very tough Browns defensive front that includes All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett, but it's even more difficult to do so with a banged-up offensive line.
If Wentz truly injured his shoulder, that will lead to his being ruled out and missing more than one game; the Vikings will need to sign a new quarterback to carry them through the weeks that both Wentz and McCarthy are out. There are no details on Wentz yet, but the Vikings are sure to provide those as they come.
For now, the Vikings are in a world of trouble with Wentz being sidelined with a concerning injury to his shoulder.
