Following a victory over Pat McAfee at Backlash, Gunther refocused his efforts on reclaiming the World Heavyweight Championship. He achieved this goal by defeating Jey Uso on the June 9 episode of Raw, successfully avenging his loss from WrestleMania 41. With the championship back around his waist, Gunther turned his attention to another long-desired opponent: Goldberg.

The anticipated match between Gunther and Goldberg served as the latter's retirement match and took place at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12. Despite a determined effort from the veteran, Gunther emerged victorious, bringing Goldberg’s legendary in-ring career to a close.

Recently, while appearing on Real Talk with Mike Burke, Goldberg reflected on his final match, which took place in Atlanta. During the conversation, he confirmed that he sustained an injury during the bout, specifically breaking his hand. Goldberg explained that the injury happened when he attempted to exchange wrestling chops with Gunther, a competitor known for the punishing impact of his own chops.

“The only thing that I hurt was, I think I broke my hand. Oh, I broke my hand. I broke a bone in my hand," Goldberg confirmed. When asked how it happened, he elaborated, "[How did you do that?] Chopping him. I don’t know how to chop, and he chopped me, and it was funny. That’s the whole thing.”

In the same interview, Goldberg also expressed frustration with WWE regarding the handling of his iconic WCW undefeated streak. He criticized the company for having Asuka surpass his record, suggesting it was a deliberate slight against him due to his history with WCW during the competitive 'Monday Night War' era.

He referred to Asuka as "some girl" breaking the streak, indicating his displeasure with how that historical benchmark was treated by WWE. While Goldberg begins his retirement, Gunther continued his reign as World Heavyweight Champion until Clash in Paris on August 31, where he lost the title to Seth Rollins in a multi-man match also involving CM Punk, Jey Uso, and LA Knight.

Gunther has since remained a dominant force on Raw, often appearing alongside Imperium stablemates Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci. His next major focus will likely be Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29, though Imperium's specific role or involvement in a WarGames match has not yet been confirmed.
