UEFA has suffered a potential embarrassment on the eve of Euro 2016 after it emerged the tournament's official mascot shares its name with a sex toy.

"Super Victor" is a small cartoon boy in a France shirt with a cape and superpowers. He is also, it turns out, a 5.5 kilogram sex toy which is "giant, huge, massive, stupendous and eeeeeeenormous!" according to one of the sites advertising its use.

Parents Googling "Super Victor Toy" will be presented with a mix of results for online sex toy retailers, Amazon product reviews, as well as websites featuring the tournamnent mascot.

UEFA says Victor's name was chosen to represent his superpowers and the word victory, rather than any resemblance to an enormous instrument of pleasure.

The Guardian quoted a UEFA spokesman saying: "All we can say is that they [the sex aids] are not produced by UEFA."

Super Victor will get his first run-out on Friday evening, when France plays Romania at Stade de France in the opening game of Euro 2016.
