'The Talk': Why Marie Osmond Has Left the CBS Talk Show

Marie Osmond is the latest presenter in the last few years to leave CBS daytime show The Talk, following the departures of Aisha Tyler, Julie Chen Moonves and Sara Gilbert, who Osmond replaced at the start of Season 10. Osmond's statement after announcing her departure gave some hints at exactly why she has left the show, which she had previously co-hosted dozens of times.

The one-time "Paper Roses" singer wrote in a statement: "One of the highlights of my year at The Talk was working with my dear friend John Redmann, and I'm excited to continue our working relationship on several projects we are developing.

"Also, my husband and I just dropped our last two kids off at college, we looked at each other, laughed and remembered we hadn't been this alone together since 1982!! So, at this stage of my life, I'm looking forward to spending more time with him and visiting all the kids/grandkids."

Osmond's departure comes just three weeks after Redmann, who has acted as showrunner on the series for a decade, quit the show, suggesting they may be working together on a new show that Osmond is reportedly working on for CBS.

The departures of Osmond and Redmond come after a time of upheaval for the series, which is co-hosted by Sheryl Underwood, Carrie Ann Inaba, Sharon Osbourne and Eve. As the coronavirus began to hit the U.S., initially the show began to film without an audience, but then production had to shut down on the show in March. The show then returned as The Talk@Home shortly after.

When the show returns this September for its 11th season, Osmond will not appear. Per Deadline, the talk show is set to start with just Osbourne, Inaba, Underwood and Eve until a replacement for the departing host is found.

In a statement, CBS said of Osmond leaving: "Marie is a consummate professional, and we thank her for sharing her personal experiences, insight, as well as incredible talents, with our audience. We will miss her humor, kindness and good nature, and wish her much success in her future endeavors."

Marie Osmond is the seventh host to quit the show since it started in 2010. Marissa Jaret Winokur, Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini all lasted one season on the show, while Tyler, Chen and Gilbert (who remains an executive producer on the series) have all exited in the last three years. Sharon Osbourne is the only host who has appeared in all 10 seasons of The Talk.
