Teenager Killed, Two Others Injured in Shooting Near Atlanta Fair: Police

A teenager was killed in a shooting that occurred after an argument near the Atlanta Fair, according to police.

Police said the teenager was killed and two others wounded near the Atlanta Fair at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to ABC affiliate WSB-TV Atlanta.

Atlanta police Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said the shooting followed on from an "escalated dispute," which turned into a fight.

Police told the network that a 14-year-old, a 16-year-old and a 19-year-old were shot on the corner of Bass and Pryor streets close to Central Avenue.

The shooting happened across the road from where the event was held at the Center Parc Credit Union Stadium.

All three victims were taken to a nearby hospital where the 16-year-old died as a result of their injuries, according to WSB-TV.

The other two teenagers are said to be in a stable condition. Police are investigating whether anyone else was involved in the shooting.

Lt. Woolfolk told the network: "I think we're off to a decent start with this investigation. We recovered some ballistic evidence on scene.

"We've also begun to assess video surveillance in reference to the incident, so we will be working through the night to determine all the persons involved in this incident."

Police told WSB-TV that no arrests have been made and they have not released the victims' identities.

One video shared online appeared to show a large group of people engaged in a fight close to the fair and another clip featured police cars parked, apparently close by.

Newsweek has contacted the City of Atlanta Police Department for comment.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information about shootings from across the U.S., 33 people in Atlanta have been fatally gunned down since January 1 this year.

The same database found that across Georgia some 133 people have died as a result of gun violence this year.

Also in Georgia, a 14-year-old was charged earlier this week in connection with a fatal shooting outside a gas station that left a bystander dead.

The DeKalb County Police Department said the incident happened at about 6 p.m. on Thursday when the suspect was allegedly "involved in a shooting with a group of men."

In a statement on Facebook, the police department said: "The victim, a 28-year-man who was with his family, was not involved in the shooting."

Police later identified the victim as John Battle who was in a car with his girlfriend and their 16-month-old when the shooting happened, according to WSB-TV.
