Texas Boy, 8, Rushed to Hospital after Bullies Beat Him Unconscious in 'Unprovoked' School Bathroom Attack

A Texas school district is investigating after an 8-year-old child reportedly suffered bleeding in his brain after being beaten up by a group of other students.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning inside a bathroom at Lakewood Elementary School in Tomball, Harris County. According to relatives of the victim, three students followed the third grader from the school bus, before attacking him to the point of unconsciousness.

Administrators from the Tomball Independent School District, which oversees the Texas school, said that officials will "take appropriate disciplinary measures for all those involved."

The victim's older sister, Kailee Boynton, shared images of the boy on social media after he was admitted to hospital for treatment on Tuesday

"Prayers for my little brother," she wrote. "He was attacked at school and has a traumatic brain injury."

Speaking to media outlet KHOU 11, Boynton said the attack was unprovoked. "They pinned my brother down," she said, describing the incident.

"They were beating him. They beat him to the point of unconsciousness, where they continued to beat him. They went through his backpack." According to KTRK, the child's parents were informed of the attack at about 9 a.m. The boy was admitted to Texas Children's Hospital and is expected to recover. Boynton said her parents want to work with administrators to resolve the bullying.

The child as since been released from hospital.

A school district spokesperson said: "Tomball ISD is aware of an incident in the bathroom between several students at one of our elementary schools that resulted in one student being sent to the hospital with an injury.

"That student has since been released home. Out of respect for the family and the student's privacy, we are not providing any more details on the incident. We are thoroughly investigating the incident and will take appropriate disciplinary measures for all those involved."

District officials described student safety as a top priority, but did not elaborate on what disciplinary measures administrators would be taken to resolve the issue.

On Facebook update yesterday, the victim's sister said she wants to further raise awareness about the "hateful crime of bullying". She wrote: "I am so very blessed to report that my brother is now home and recovering but it makes my heart ache that he had to suffer this way. When do we, adults, decide when enough is enough? How did it escalate to this extreme?"

Yesterday, California police confirmed that a 13-year-old boy who was attacked by two students at a Moreno Valley middle school earlier this month was pronounced dead. Video footage of the beating surfaced on Facebook, and the teens accused of being responsible were arrested.
