Video of Trump Defying Royal Protocol When Meeting Queen Resurfaces

A video showing Donald Trump committing a social faux pas during his 2018 meeting with Queen Elizabeth II has resurfaced online.

The clip was reposted to Twitter in the wake of the British monarch's death at the age of 96.

At the time of writing, the video, which was shared by the account Trump_Detester, had been viewed 1.3 million times.

The video dates back to Trump's visit to the U.K. back in July 2018, when the former president ended up going viral for all the wrong reasons following his meeting with the queen.

The queen hosted Trump at Windsor Castle on July 13 in an engagement that saw the pair inspect a Guard of Honor, formed of the Coldstream Guards.

However, as the viral footage shows, the inspection did not exactly go to plan. As Trump and the queen begin walking, the monarch can be seen gesturing to the ex-president, seemingly attempting to direct him where to go.

Trump is seen walking ahead of her while the queen attempts to move behind him to his other side. At this point, Trump stops, seemingly unclear at what he should be doing next.

The queen then returns to where she was at the beginning of the inspection. While the entire awkward encounter was over in a few seconds, social media was quick to pick up on the bizarre exchange.

More significantly still, it was subsequently reported by Slate that Trump had broken the BBC's own list of rules for meeting the queen which warn you must never "turn your back on Her Majesty" as "it is considered rude."

The queen's death prompted Trump's detractors to revisit the incident, with Trump_Detester, the account sharing the clip, describing it as "cringe worthy" moment that made the ex-president a "worldwide embarrassment."

Some attempted to defend Trump's conduct in the clip, with one viewer arguing: "I believe if you watch the lady you will see her usher him to walk in front of her giving him right of passage."

However, most saw it as a moment the ex-president would probably rather forget. "Peak cringe," one commenter said, with another writing: "I can't believe that some people want him back."

"The guy is so socially awkward and embarrasses himself in public again and again," a third viewer wrote, with a fourth commenting: "It isn't that he is not being respectful to the Queen, he's also being a jerk to an elder and a woman."

The reemergence of the clip comes hot-on-the-heels of footage appearing to show the queen's successor, King Charles III, flipping the bird to the former president.

Trump was among a raft of world leaders past and present to pay tribute to the late monarch.

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, he said: "Melania and I will always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty's generous friendship, great wisdom, and wonderful sense of humor. What a grand and beautiful lady she was—there was nobody like her!..."
