Eric Trump Denies Donald Trump-Ron DeSantis Friction Claims

Eric Trump has denied that there was ever a rift between his father and Ron DeSantis following reports Donald Trump had turned on one of his closest allies in the GOP.

Speaking to conservative pundit Candace Owens on her Youtube show on Thursday, Eric Trump stated that there was "no friction" between the former president and the Florida Governor, adding that his father "believed" in DeSantis and helped him win the gubernatorial election in Florida in 2018.

"There's no friction," Eric Trump said. "In fact, you know, I remember campaigning actively for DeSantis back in the day and frankly I've always remembered how thankful he was.

"Without Donald Trump—I think he [DeSantis] would be the first one to say this, I'm not saying anything that's controversial—but my father pushed very, very hard for him and my father believed in him and he just barely got over [the line]."

Eric Trump added it was a good thing his father campaigned on behalf of DeSantis as "look what happened to [2018 Democratic candidate Andrew] Gillum in the aftermath of that race."

In March 2020, Gillum, the former mayor of Tallahassee, was found by police in a Miami Beach hotel room allegedly too inebriated to talk while officers were responding to a call about a suspected drug overdose. Bags of suspected crystal methamphetamine were also seized from the room.

There have been reports that Donald Trump had been vocally criticizing DeSantis because he has not ruled himself out of running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

In January, Axios reported, citing unnamed sources, that Donald Trump didn't consider DeSantis a threat for the GOP, allegedly saying he has "no personal charisma" and a "dull personality."

The reports arrived after Trump appeared to make a thinly veiled attack on DeSantis and other "gutless" politicians who refuse to say whether they have received a COVID-19 booster shot during an interview with One America News Network.

Both Trump and DeSantis have since denied there was ever a feud between the pair, who are considered the two main candidates for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, albeit with Trump being the favorite by far.

In a January, 2021 interview with Fox News, Trump called the reports of an apparent rift between him and DeSantis as "fake news."

He added to Sean Hannity: "I have a very good relationship with Ron and I intend to have it for a long time."

In a previous statement to Newsweek, DeSantis' press secretary Christina Pushaw said the media stories claiming tension between the pair were attempts by "corporate media activists to distract from President Biden's failures."

Pushaw added: "It is not a coincidence that this fabricated media narrative emerged during perhaps the worst week of Biden's presidency, as it became clear last week that Biden would not be able to deliver on Build Back Better, enact sweeping legislation to federalize elections, or 'shut down the virus,' as he had promised repeatedly during the 2020 campaign."
