Cat Who Always Sits Like He's 'Traumatized' Has Internet in Stitches

A cat sitting "like he's traumatized" went viral on a Reddit post on Tuesday, leaving the internet in stitches.

The poster u/Rayray888 shared the pictures of the cat on the popular discussion thread r/aww with the caption "My cat always sits like he's traumatized." The post has since received over 18,000 upvotes.

In the pictures, the black and white cat sits on the sofa with his chin resting on the armrest as he stares into the distance—almost although he is deep in thought.

With hundreds of delighted responses, Redditors have been left in stitches at the cat's poses.

More posters pondered what may be going on behind those adorable eyes.

"He has seen things that no cat should see," wrote one commenter. "Like he is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders," said another.

We've all heard the phrase "scaredy cat," but cats do have a natural tendency to be hesitant and afraid in new situations and environments. Veterinary Centers of America (VCA) animal hospitals has reported that frightened cats are likely to try and hide, appear smaller and pull their ears back. Other cats show signs of agitation or aggression such as dilated pupils, an arched back or piloerection (hair standing on end).

But what are they so worried about? Catonsville Cat Clinic, based in Maryland, lists the most common cat fears as, strangers, new pets, unfamiliar objects, loud noises and leaving home.

This "traumatized" cat is actually more likely to just be enjoying a good rest—and it's no surprise. Well known for relaxing, the average cat sleeps between 12 and 18 hours a day, and as they grow older they'll often spend even longer resting. This is mainly because cats have a polyphasic sleep pattern, meaning they sleep multiple times a day, rather than in one long period like humans.

His hilarious poses also caught the attention of Redditors who found the kitty relatable.

User LynneCDoyle commented: "Oh my! I think your cat is the spirit animal of my neighbor's teenage daughter."

Another shared their likeness to the cat: "[Looks like] me on the last day of summer break."

In January, another cat went viral for his expressions when this grumpy grandad cat was filmed watching his grandkittens. In October 2021, a cat's hilarious reaction to being sat on by the family dog also went viral.
