'Walker' Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Watch Online: All You Need to Know
Walker is The CW's new imagining of Walker, Texas Ranger, the Chuck Norris-starring crime show from the '90s. Jared Padalecki, fresh from the ending of Supernatural, leads the cast of the reboot, which has a January release date. The CW has also released trailers and details of its plot that gives viewers a good idea of what to expect from the new show before they watch it.
When does Walker start?
The series premiere of the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot will air on Thursday, January 22 at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT. The first season is expected to have 13 episodes, airing weekly on The CW.
The official episode synopsis for the premiere reads: "Texas Ranger Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two with his own moral code, returns home to Austin, TX, after being undercover for two years, only to discover there's harder work to be done at home."
Who is in the cast of Walker?
Jared Padalecki leads the cast in his first post-Supernatural role. Speaking to Variety, he revealed that the character will be slightly different than the rogue officer viewers saw in the original show.
He said: "The original [series] was this lawman who abides by his own rules, and he would just do head-spinning kicks on people, and obviously we can't do that now; that would be laughably bad.
"We don't want the audience to ever know whether Walker is quote conservative or quote liberal...This version of 'Walker,' we play with the gray area: This is not a show about a martial artist kicking minorities in the face; this is a show about a legit Texan saying, 'Hey, I need to hear the whole story before I make a decision.'"
Joining Padalecki in the cast by the star of another CW show, Lindsey Morgan, who comes off of the recently-ended The 100 to play Micki Ramirez, Cordell's new partner. Walker's family, meanwhile is father Bonham (The X Files' Mitch Pileggi), mother Abeline (Herman's Head's Molly Hagan) and brother Liam (Pretty Little Liars' Keegan Allen). Walker's late wife, meanwhile, is played by Genevieve Padalecki, Jared's real-life wife.
Also starring in the show are Coby Bell, Jeff Pierre, Violet Brinson and Kale Culley.
How to watch Walker online
After first airing on The CW, episodes of the show will be available on the network's website and app for free with ads. At any time, The CW makes available the latest five episodes of most of its shows available for free. However, with newer shows such as Walker, all episodes will be available on the website and app while the show is airing.
After all 13 episodes have aired, the show will come to a different streaming service. Previously, CW shows have come to Netflix, but newer shows are not part of the network's deal with the streamer. Instead, Walker will stream on HBO Max shortly after the season finale airs, meaning it should be on the streamer this spring.
Walker airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on The CW.
