Too soon, Hodor. Too soon.

In the week since Game of Thrones aired its gut-wrenching latest episode "The Door," that saw the death of everyone's favorite monosyllabic character and the origins of his name revealed, plenty of viral "hold the door" memes have emerged.

There are now actual door stops bearing Hodor's name and some employees with way too much time on their hands have begun defacing their office elevators with stickers of the character.

Even Hodor actor Kristian Nairn is joining the "hold the door" frenzy created by his character, appearing in a viral clip posted by YouTube user Turps. See below:

Ah, Hodor. You keep holding those doors, you thoughtful man.

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Nairn said it was "crazy" that his character's final moments had created a viral trend. " I thought it would have died down by now, but it seems to be gathering momentum," he said.

While Hodor's name deriving from the saying "hold the door" may have come as a shock to some viewers, Newsweek revealed how one fan had the whole thing figured out eight years ago.

Budding author Stuart A. Etter told Newsweek Tuesday he predicted the twist in 2008.

"I'm a writer, so I like wordplay and puzzles," Etter explained. "When the question was posed on [a fan forum] 'What does Hodor mean?' I saw the words hidden within the name."
