Watch: Jimmy Kimmel Says Melania Trump Planned 'Escape Tunnel' Instead of Easter Egg Roll

Jimmy Kimmel doubts that Melania Trump was working hard on the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, which first ladies traditionally host—and said she was planning something else instead.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday night, the comedian showed a clip from earlier in the day of the first lady standing on the White House balcony alongside her husband, President Donald Trump.

"I want to really thank the first lady, Melania, who has done an incredible job. She worked so hard on this event, and so I want to thank you," the president said, turning to his wife, who smiled and waved at the crowd.

"Not a chance she did one thing to help set that up," Kimmel said. "She didn't dye eggs. The only thing she's been working on is an escape tunnel."

The first lady has made fewer public appearances with her husband since reports broke out in January of an alleged affair he had with porn star Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

It isn't the first time Kimmel has jokingly stated that the first lady is looking for an escape route. He cracked the same joke in January when she decided not to join the president at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, following affair reports.

"Instead of going to Davos, I guess her plan was to stay back in the White House to keep digging the escape tunnel she has hidden behind a poster of Tom Selleck," Kimmel said.

Last month, in the context of the president's firing of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Kimmel referred to the first lady as a captive from her native country.

"Trump told reporters he made this decision 'by myself.' Like a 5-year-old. 'I did it all by myself.' Of course you did it by yourself. There's no one left at the White House anymore," Kimmel said. "It's just you and your Slovenian captive."
