What to Know About Tanya Fear: U.K. Actress in L.A. Went Missing for 4 Days

Tanya Fear, a 31-year-old British actress, had been reported missing in Los Angeles for four days, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She was later reported to be found on Monday by the Los Angeles Police Department's Missing Persons Unit, which the department has confirmed to Newsweek directly.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to the BBC that a missing person report was filed for Fear on September 9, the day she had last been seen by many in the area around the Hollywood Bowl. She was, however, later said to be spotted by some at an L.A. Trader Joe's location on Santa Monica Boulevard on September 12, marking the last time that she was purportedly seen by anyone before being located a day later.

Newsweek was told in response from the LAPD that Fear's case was considered "noncritical." A critical missing person case in California is defined by a few criteria, including a history of running away, suspicion of a crime or foul play being involved, the person being in imminent need of medical attention, and more.

"Since she's been here, she's had a great career and this is just the beginning," Alex Cole, Fear's manager, said in a statement to ABC News. "We're obviously concerned and [hope] we find out this is a simple mistake and we find her."

Cole added that he had seen Fear a week ago and had not noticed anything concerning about her behavior.

The actress was born Tanyaradzwa Fear in Zimbabwe, to a Zimbabwean father and an English mother. She moved with her family to the United Kingdom at a young age and grew up there, eventually becoming an actress.

She is perhaps best known for a significant supporting role in a 2018 episode of the BBC's seminal science-fiction series, Doctor Who. Fear appeared in the episode, Arachnids in the UK, and played the character of Dr. Jade McIntyre. Given the self-contained nature of most Doctor Who episodes, her character has not returned since. This was one of the early episodes in the show's 11th season, the inaugural outing for Jodie Whitaker, the first female actor to ever play The Doctor.

Fear has also had smaller roles in several major films. In 2013, she appeared as "Harlow" in Kick-Ass 2, the sequel to the cult-favorite superhero send-up from 2010. In 2018, she played a waitress in My Dinner with Herve, a biopic produced by HBO about Fantasy Island actor Herve Villechaize. The title role was played by Peter Dinklage opposite Jamie Dornan.

Fear had roles on numerous other TV series, including Midsomer Murders, Spotless, DCI Banks, and Endeavour. Her IMDB page also shows that she wrote, directed, and starred in a series of three comedy short films from 2020 called Shoot Your Shot.

Fear's family had set up a Twitter account, @FindTanyaFear, to provide information about the missing actress and to get the word out. This includes information about what she was last seen wearing: a light brown, fitted short sleeve top with dark plaid bottoms that could have potentially been shorts.

At 4:59 p.m. ET, the account confirmed that Fear had been found safe. She reportedly showed no signs of physical harm, but was nevertheless taken to a hospital out of caution.

"We wish to thank the Police, members of the public for their efforts in locating Tanya," the account said in a statement. "As well as the outpouring of concern and support over the last several days. Tanya's family are relived [sic] and extremely grateful."
