Who Are the New 'Hawkeye' Characters and How They Fit Into the MCU
Hawkeye is coming to Disney+ just in time for the festive season and the first look trailer reveals new information about the characters set to join the MCU.
Jeremy Renner is reprising his role as Clint Barton but he'll be joined in the new series by Oscar-nominated actors Hailee Steinfeld and Vera Farmiga.
Hawkeye will be the fifth original Marvel series airing exclusively on Disney+ after Wandavision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and the current animated series What If...?.
The recent Hawkeye trailer confirms the appearance of some characters while others have already been confirmed. Let's take a look at who we can expect to see in the upcoming series.
Jeremy Renner - Clint Barton
Since the show is called Hawkeye, it makes sense that the man who's played him in the MCU for 10 years would lead the series.
Renner is seen caring for his kids in the trailer before taking a new protégé under his wing. The trailer starts with him mentioning how his past as the vigilante Ronin (seen in Avengers: Endgame) has caught up with him.
Hailee Steinfeld - Kate Bishop
The protégé seen learning from Clint in the new Hawkeye trailer is Kate Bishop, played by Steinfeld. The pair meet when she appears to be posing as Ronin and continuing his vigilante battle.
Kate made her debut in the Marvel comic books in 2005, taking on the Hawkeye mantle after Clint Barton had died. In the 2012 Hawkeye comic book series, Kate and Clint team up much like they seem to do in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Vera Farmiga - Eleanor Bishop
Farmiga is featured very briefly in the trailer but we know she plays Eleanor Bishop, mother of Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. Very little is known about the character at this point other than the fact that she has a black bob hairstyle and likes a glass of white wine, as seen in the trailer.
Alaqua Cox - Maya Lopez
Alaqua Cox makes her acting debut as Maya Lopez in Hawkeye, and the trailer shows a tiny glimpse of her first appearance as the character. Cox is a Native American actress who is also deaf and an amputee.
Maya Lopez plays the deaf superhero Echo who often appears alongside Daredevil in the comics. Similar to the villain Taskmaster, Echo has the ability to perfectly copy the movements of another person. Disney+ reportedly have a spin-off series for the character in the works according to Variety.

Jolt - Lucky the Pizza Dog
In one of the few official preview images released by Disney, Lucky the Pizza Dog can be seen with Kate and Clint, played by Jolt the golden retriever. In the comics, Lucky is adopted by Hawkeye. Jolt even has their own Instagram account and shared a message of thanks to the creators of the show after the trailer came out.
Other characters confirmed for Hawkeye
Many other actors have been confirmed to join the cast of Hawkeye but don't appear in the trailer.
Florence Pugh will reprise her role from Black Widow as Yelena Belova, aka Black Widow. Fra Fee is set to play a character called Kazi which some speculate is short for Kazimierz Kazimierczak who is a villain in the Marvel comics.
Tony Dalton will play Jack Duquesne who is expected to be a spin on an existing character that was a mentor to Clint Barton. Zahn McClarnon has been cast as William Lopez, father of Cox' character Maya Lopez.
Ava Russo, Ben Sakamoto and Cade Woodward reprise their roles as Barton's children Lila, Cooper and Nathaniel from previous MCU movies. Linda Cardellini who played Laura Barton in the movies is absent from the trailer and her name was trending after its release as a result.
When is Hawkeye on Disney+?
The trailer ends by revealing Hawkeye the series will be released on Wednesday November 24, 2021. It features a festive theme so the episodes' release dates seem perfectly timed in the lead up to Christmas.
Screen Rant suggests the season will feature six episodes in total which could mean the finale airs on December 29, 2021. It's slated as being part of Phase Four in the MCU, alongside the likes of Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Wandavision and Loki.
Hawkeye was created by Jonathan Igla and will be directed by Rhys Thomas (Saturday Night Live) and British directing duo Bert and Bertie (Troop Zero).
