'Wordle' #459 Answer: Today's Word Hints for Wednesday, September 21 Puzzle

Wordle, the online puzzle first released to the public in October 2021, has delivered its latest brainteaser to fans around the world.

The game was developed by Josh Wardle, a New York-based software developer originally from Britain, who told Newsweek he wanted to "make a game that my partner would enjoy playing."

Players are tasked with working out a five-letter word each day, in six guesses or less. After each prediction the letters change color, showing how accurate the guess was. If a letter turns green it means it is both in the word and in the correct position. Yellow means the letter is in the word, but has been put in the wrong place, while grey means it doesn't feature at all.

Wardle has admitted that, despite inventing Wordle, he sometimes struggles with the puzzles.

He explained: "Well, I did create Wordle and I'm not very good at it, so there's your answer! I'm afraid I'm not really the best.

"[My partner] and I play it on the couch together each morning. She will consistently get it in three goes, which is way, way better than I can ever hope to achieve. I normally need at least 4 or 5 attempts."

In January the New York Times purchased Wordle for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, though it remains free for users.

Wordle's popularity has inspired a range of similar games, such as Dordle and the mathematically-based Nerdle.
