How Many Episodes of 'Arcane' Are There and When Are They Released on Netflix?

The League of Legends prequel series Arcane will be debuting on Netflix this weekend, but the episodes aren't all going up at the same time.

Arcane is integrated with the established lore of Riot Games popular esport (the developer even had creative input on the project), which means that everything that happens here is considered canon. The show depicts the growing rift between the utopian city of Piltover and its destitute neighbour community, Zaun.

Over the course of the series, you will get to see how the latter staged a violent uprising, which untimely sets the stage for the conflict in League of Legends itself. You will also learn how the civil war impacted the relationships of key characters, including Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell).

More information about the plot, cast list and backstory of Arcane can be found here.

How Many Episodes of 'Arcane' Are There?

There are nine episodes of Arcane in total. The first batch will land on Netflix on Saturday, November 6. They will be available from 7 p.m. ET, coming hot on the heels of the League of Legends 2021 World Championship finals.

However, those who are eager to see the story unfold in its entirety will be disappointed to learn that this won't be possible for a couple more weeks.

To clarify, you can't binge-watch the series in one go, as it has a unique release schedule. Rather than all coming out at once, or airing in weekly installments, Arcane's episodes have been grouped together into three groups of three.

These clusters are being described as "Acts" and will each deliver a distinct part of the narrative. Adhering to a traditional story structure, the first act provides the setup, the second will depict the main bulk of the conflict and the final one will tie up any loose ends.

What Is the 'Arcane' Release Schedule?

By splitting Arcane's distribution into chunks like this, the showrunners are clearly hoping that they will be able to give you enough material with each act to keep you hooked, while still ending with gripping cliff-hangers that leave you wanting more.

A new act of Arcane will be released each Saturday for the next three weeks. The schedule is as follows:

  • Act 1 (Episodes 1-3): November 6
  • Act 2 (Episodes 4-6): November 13
  • Act 3 (Episodes 7-9): November 20

While it's a Netflix show, you don't need an account on the streaming service to watch any Arcane.

Content creators are being encouraged to co-stream the show on Twitch, which means that they can broadcast the whole thing (provided they include reactions and commentary of course) without having to worry about being issued DCMA takedowns. As such, you can watch each act of Arcane for free on Twitch.
