'Crisis on Infinite Earths' Explained: Who are the 7 Paragons?

Crisis on Infinite Earths has now revealed how this apocalyptic event can be ended. According to The Monitor (played by LaMonica Garrett), what is needed is the 7 Paragons, a group of superheroes who can action his plan and save the multiverse from the Anti-Monitor (also LaMonica Garrett).

So far in the Arrowverse crossover, airing now on The CW, we have learned the identity of four of the seven Paragons, described by The Monitor as "beings of the purest will." These have been revealed as Kara Danvers/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), Batwoman (Ruby Rose), Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz) and the Earth-96 incarnation of Clark Kent Superman (Brandon Routh). They are the Paragons of Hope, Courage, Destiny and Truth respectively. This leaves three yet to be identified.

Those hoping to find spoilers in the comic book version of Crisis on Infinite Earths are out of luck. The Paragons are not mentioned in the comics, with Den of Geek noting that the seven heroes first summoned in that series is a very different bunch: King Solovar of Gorilla City, Dawnstar, Firebrand, Blue Beetle, Psycho Pirate, Arion, and Firestorm.

Fans, however, think they have identified at least two more Paragons among the huge cast of The CW's Arrowverse crossover. The most likely of these is Black Lightning, who will appear in Crisis Episode 3. This crossover will be the first time that the Earth-38 character joins the Arrowverse, and what better reason for him to do so than because he is a Paragon?

The Monitor has said he needs the help of the 7 Paragons to end the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" The CW

This is something that is hinted at in the trailer for Episode 3, which sees Black Lightning appear. We see him say, "what do you need from me," to which The Monitor replies, "serve your higher purpose."

Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) is another possible candidate. As she helped The Monitor read through the Book of the Guardians, some think this is a sign she will be named the Paragon of Wisdom later on in the series. However, there are a number of other candidates for the last three Paragon roles. One of these is Stargirl (Brec Bassinger), due to appear in Crisis before making her debut in the DC Universe series of the same name, coming in 2020. After all, what better way to launch a new DC series than by having one of its characters save the entire multiverse?

By that same logic, Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara) could be a Paragon too. The next episode of Arrow after Crisis on Infinite Earths, coming to The CW in January 2020, will be a backdoor pilot for Green Arrow and the Canaries, a show that will see her taking on the mantle of the Green Arrow alongside two of the Arrowverse's Black Canaries. However, The CW may choose to lead up to this pilot by giving Mia a major role in the endgame of the Crisis.

"Crisis on Infinite Earths" viewers think the symbols on The Monitor's door hold the key to the identities of the 7 Paragons The CW

Other fans have pointed out that the seven symbols on the Monitor's compound may correspond to the 7 Paragons. However, fan opinion is divided as to who these symbols may represent. One appears to be an arrowhead, giving some confirmation of the theory that Mia will step up. Other fans think they can see references to The Flash, The Martian Manhunter (David Harewood), Nash Wells/Pariah (Tom Cavanagh) and even the Green Lantern, who has not been confirmed to be appearing in Crisis, in these symbols.

Crisis on Infinite Earths continues on Tuesday, December 10 at 8 p.m. on The CW
