Cristiano Ronaldo's participation in Real Madrid's Champions League semi-final with Manchester City on Tuesday could be in jeopardy.

Ronaldo limped off in injury time during Madrid's 3-0 win over Villarreal in La Liga on Wednesday night after suffering a hamstring complaint.

The Portuguese superstar had played every minute of Real's 34 La Liga matches this season, also starting each of its 10 Champions League ties.

Tuesday's semi-final of the competition at the Etihad Stadium, however, may not see Ronaldo feature in Zinedine Zidane's line-up in the competition for the first time this season.

"With Cristiano, it is important to rest, but he always wants to play and do his best," Zidane told reporters after the Villarreal game.

"Sometimes, for me, like today when he leaves the field, it is difficult. Let's see when he recovers."

Ronaldo is due to be assessed on Thursday.
