Customer Throws Drink at Drive-Thru Worker Over Shortchange in Viral Video

A video that showed a customer throwing a drink at a Whataburger drive-thru employee has gone viral.

The video was posted to TikTok earlier this week by Von Lopez (@vonmarie22), who wrote: "Customer paid and was short then got mad she was told she was short!" So far, the post has racked up more than 5.4 million views and over 700,000 likes.

At the beginning of the eight-second clip—which is a recording of the restaurant's security footage—the employee can be seen checking the order screen before walking the customer's food over to the window. Unfortunately, things take a dramatic turn for the worst once the window is opened.

Instead of grabbing their food, the customer chucks their drink inside, hitting a second employee in the back. The first employee then throws the customer's food into their car and immediately closes the drive-thru window.

The video ends there.

Lopez explained in a follow-up post that the heated viral moment happened because the customer shortchanged the employee upon payment.

According to the post, the customer "tossed" a dime into the restaurant when they were told they still owed money. In response, the employee tossed the dime back at the customer, closed the window and continued working. What happened next was the drink toss.

Of course, this isn't the first heated fast-food exchange to go viral in recent months.

Earlier this month, an angry customer jumped over a Chick-fil-A counter in a viral TikTok video. It's unclear what the man was angry about, but at one point he can be heard screaming: "Give me my f**king food."

The video ends with a security officer ushering people out of the restaurant.

In November, a customer was filmed throwing hot soup into an employee's face at a Mexican restaurant. Police told Newsweek that the customer was upset because the soup melted her plastic lid.

The victim did not sustain any injuries and the assailant was permanently banned from the restaurant.

Commenters of Lopez's video praised the employee for the way they handled the situation.

"Normalize matching the customer's energy," wrote Lovegoodsxv.

"I love the 0 hesitation in throwing the food back. She's been waiting 'til that day she finally got to do it. I'm still waiting for that day," said zippi.

"Girlie did the right thing. She hit the customer's face perfectly," commented lwrncmonv.

Judy wood added: "Not only did she dodge that cup but she also made that bag in the car. Good job!!!"
