Is Detective Kreps Bunny's Killer? All of the Theories in 'OMITB' Season 2

Following the tradition set in Season 1, Only Murders in the Building Season 2, Episode 8 is an alternative episode to what we usually see. While Season 1 had an episode shot mainly in complete silence, focusing on the story of Theo Dimas (played by James Caverly) who is deaf, Episode 8 of Season 2 is filmed almost entirely in the dark, thanks to a conveniently timed NYC blackout.

However, when the lights do come on in the episode's final moments, a new suspect in the death of Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell) is revealed and it turned out to be the man you would least expect.

Things are not looking good for Detective Kreps (Michael Rapaport), who was not only floating around The Arconia after the blackout, which was enough to raise eyebrows, but he was spotted with a large spot of glitter, stuck to his neck. Potentially, the same glitter used in Oliver's (Martin Short) makeshift glitter bomb that was made to catch Bunny's killer in Episode 6.

So, is Detective Kreps Bunny's killer? Newsweek takes a look at the theories below.

Is Detective Kreps Bunny's Killer?

At the moment, it is looking very likely that Detective Kreps could be Bunny's killer. But what would his motive possibly be to take an elderly woman's life?

There are three main things not going in his favor, making him look particularly suspicious:

  • The Glitter stains
  • His sore arm
  • He was in the Arconia at the time of the blackout

Mabel (Selena Gomez) and Only Murders in the Building fanatic, Marv (Daniel Oreskes) spotted straight away that Detective Kreps' neck was laced with glitter. For a few episodes now, Mabel, Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver have been attempting to track down a mysterious man dressed in black who was spotted in The Arconia on the night of Bunny's death.

In Episode 6, Oliver set off a glitter bomb in a bid to catch him and it worked... sort of. The bomb did explode and covered him in glitter, but Mabel, Charles and Oliver failed to catch him. Mabel even came face to face with him on the subway but she stabbed him with her knitting needle as he edged closer to her and fled.

Then, in Episode 7, Mabel came face to face with him again at Coney Island and managed to steal his belongings, which included a photograph of Charles' stepdaughter Lucy, who crossed path with him on the night Bunny was killed, suggesting the man in glitter may now be after Lucy (Zoe Colletti).

When Detective Kreps crossed paths with Mabel in the lobby of The Arconia, she questioned why exactly he was in the building and had not arrested her, which he could not answer. He also showed signs that he had a sore arm, the same arm that, if he was the man covered in glitter, would have been the exact arm Mabel had stabbed.

Things became more solidified for Mabel when Kreps turned his head, only to reveal a neck covered in glitter.

However, the man covered in glitter whom Mabel tracked down owned a Coney Island security badge. Maybe Detective Kreps is also the owner of a badge somehow... if so, it is fair to see he is the top suspect, for now.

Perhaps there is something to Marv's theory after all about a "Sixth Avenue Slasher" targeting women, girls and men in New York City and his base is The Arconia.

Howard's Love Interest

Detective Kreps was not the only new suspect unmasked in Episode 8 of Only Murders in the Building Season 2.

This week, audiences were introduced to a new Arconia resident, only known as "handsome" during the blackout, played by Broadway's Jason Veasey.

Howard and Handsome hit it off straight away but things got a little awkward when Handsome had a sneezing fit due to a "lethal" cat allergy and we all know Howard is a big fan of cats.

Towards the end of Episode 8, Lucy reveals to Charles, Mabel and Oliver she was in The Arconia on the night Bunny died and came face to face with Bunny's killer in the secret passageways, and at the time, he was having a full-blown sneezing fit.

Is Handsome the killer or is it just an unfortunate coincidence?

With just two episodes to go, hopefully, we find out more clues next week.

Only Murders in the Building airs Tuesdays on Hulu.
