Trump Celebrates Dan Cox's Maryland Win as Primary Success Rate Increases

Donald Trump praised Dan Cox for his victory over Kelly Schulz in Maryland's gubernatorial primary.

After early announcements of Cox's victory, the former president took to his social media network, Truth Social, to praise the candidate.

"Congratulations to Dan Cox. NBC Fake News called the race, but in this case the reporting wasn't fake (for a change!)," Trump posted.

Cox adds to Trump's record of candidates with his endorsement winning primaries. Many of those candidates, including Cox, have publicly repeated the ex-president's lie that the 2020 election was stolen.

Trump had endorsed Cox and had criticized his opponent Schulz, who was endorsed by outgoing Governor Larry Hogan, according to Cox's candidacy website.

"Dan Cox is an America First Patriot who is running for Governor in the Great State of Maryland. A tough lawyer, and smart businessman, Dan has done outstanding work in the Maryland General Assembly," Trump said in a statement, per Cox's website.

"Dan is MAGA all the way—unlike his opponent, Kelly Schultz, who was handpicked by her 'boss,' RINO Larry Hogan, who has been terrible for our Country and is against the America First Movement."

Hogan was a rare two-term Republican governor in a heavily Democratic state. He was prohibited from running for a third consecutive term and endorsed Schulz as the successor to his bipartisan style of leadership.

In his endorsement comments, Trump continued: "As a State Delegate, Dan stood up to Hogan when he supporting and meeting with Joe Biden. Dan is for low taxes, school choice, and no more lockdowns."

As part of his victory speech, Cox alluded to his determination to fight back against any future lockdowns or influence due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We will never again give over our bodies, our churches and our businesses to a lockdown state," he said, according to the Associated Press.

"He supports our Military, our great Vets, our Second Amendment, which is under attack like never before, and importantly, is very strong on Election Integrity," Trump said in his endorsement statement.

"He fought against the Rigged Presidential Election every step of the way, and will bring secure Elections back to Maryland. Dan Cox has my Complete and Total Endorsement."

Newsweek has contacted Dan Cox and Trump's Office for comment.

Out of the 7 U.S. Senate primaries already decided, all of the Trump-backed candidates have won, according to an Axios report. Of the U.S. House primaries already decided, 14 of the Trump-backed candidates have won while five have lost.

Out of the state-wide office roles that have been decided, including secretary of state and governor, 10 of the Trump-backed candidates, Cox included, have won their primaries while six have lost.
