Donald Trump Jr. Posts Surreal Image to Instagram of His Father in Revolutionary Uniform Holding Eagle, Minigun

President Donald Trump's eponymous son, Donald Trump Jr., posted a surreal image of his father to Instagram to mark the Fourth of July, the anniversary of America's Declaration of Independence in 1776.

In the image, President Trump is dressed in a Revolutionary War uniform (American, of course), standing astride a burning wreckage, holding an American bald eagle and a minigun as the Stars and Stripes flutters in the wind behind him. At the bottom is his surname: "TRUMP."

Trump's face has been photoshopped onto the original piece of artwork by a DeviantArt user called SharpWriter. In the original, the figure depicted is America's first president, George Washington. The piece is called: "George WARSHINGTON."

"This is amazing," wrote Trump Jr., the president's eldest son and a prolific user of social media. And many of those posting comments underneath seemed to agree.

"They should have this in the museum, none of this Mona Lisa," wrote ben_moskalensky, who is apparently not a Leonardo da Vinci fan.

"I'm a toll collector & put this picture on my window today! Got more lovers than haters. Best president ever! Thank you God for Trump!" wrote shellyann_5.

"Hell ya, I need a poster of this for my kids rooms," wrote stevereicher03xx.

"This is so cool can someone make a hoodie with this on it? Can't wait for tomorrow going to see Trump at the Great falls MT RALLY!!!" wrote psychopathic_guy_near_florence.

Others weren't so impressed. And they were quick to point out the irony of dressing President Trump up in a military uniform.

"Lmao y'all are so quick to love guns and veterans but your dad dodged the draft twice," wrote simpleton_owo, referring to President Trump's student deferments from having to fight in the Vietnam War.

"Trump in a military uniform. Now that's a great joke… not funny though. He's actually a coward," wrote theguitarunderground.

And judiloveslife was plain unimpressed by the whole thing: "You have got to be kidding! What a travesty to our country's image and history."

President Trump posted his own images to Instagram marking the Fourth of July. Most were conventional shots of him enjoying the fireworks at the White House with First Lady Melania Trump. But one was a little odd—a photo of him hugging the American flag.

"Happy Fourth of July....Our Country is doing GREAT!" Trump wrote.

Trump Jr. is, as you might expect, one of the president's staunchest advocates. But he is reportedly struggling to find a publisher for his book—called "Defense of Daddy"—that would give a sympathetic view of his father's presidency.

Several key publishers are said to have passed on Trump Jr.'s book proposal amid concerns about the ongoing Russia investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The probe is exploring suspicions of collusion between the Trump 2016 campaign and the Russian government.

And Trump Jr. is a key figure in that investigation because of a now notorious meeting at Trump Tower before the election, arranged by him, between senior campaign staff and a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton.

This article was updated to include a reference to the original piece of artwork.
