'Dragon Ball Super: Broly' Coming to Theaters January 16

Dragon Ball Super: Broly , the next theatrical adventure for Goku, Vegeta and the rest of the Z-Fighters finally has a premiere date.

Funimation announced that Dragon Ball Super: Broly will release in theaters on Jan. 16, 2019. It's the 20th film in the franchise's history and the first from the Dragon Ball Super series. It also reintroduces infamous baddie Broly into official continuity.

"We're thrilled to finally share the official opening date of Dragon Ball Super: Broly with fans since first announcing the acquisition in July, " said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and President of Funimation in a press release. "From its updated art style to the assembly of canon characters new and old, Dragon Ball Super: Broly is sure to please fans. Creator Akira Toriyama's imagination and masterful storytelling truly shine through in this exciting new movie."

Funimation will host a red carpet world premiere of the English dub on Thursday, Dec 13 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Fans attending New York Comic-Con will be able to receive more information on the upcoming movie at the Dragon Ball Super: Broly panel on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. EDT in the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Confirmed guests include Masako Nozawa (original Japanese voice actor of Goku), the film's director Tatsuya Nagamine, Sean Schemmel (current English voice of Goku), Christopher Sabat ( English voice of Vegeta), Monica Rial (English voice of Bulma), Jason Douglas (English voice of Beerus), Ian Sinclair (English voice of Whis) and Vic Mignogna (English voice of Broly).

Dragon Ball Super: Broly will continue the story that ended in April and is the first original storyline from creator Akira Toriyama in more than 18 years.

More recent Dragon Ball films, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F were the first films in the franchise in years and served as the base for the Dragon Ball Super series.
