New 'Dragon Ball Super: Broly' Trailer Released at SDCC

The Dragon Ball Super panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 saw the debut of the latest trailer for the upcoming Broly movie, showing the Legendary Super Saiyan squaring off against the series' protagonists.

The new Broly trailer begins with Whis asking Goku why he continues to try and get stronger. Goku says the Tournament of Power opened his eyes to the strength of the rest of the multiverse; he can't stay at his current level if he wants to defeat whatever comes his way. However, it doesn't seem like Goku, Vegeta or even Frieza are ready for what's to come.

The Dragon Ball Super movie was officially announced right before the television series' end in April and will continue the story of the show. However, the reveal that Broly will be in the movie took fans by surprise. This will be the character's canonical introduction into franchise after, first appearing in an out-of-continuity film in the '90s.

Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama shared his thoughts on the film's story after the official announcement earlier this month.

Naturally you'll get to see fierce combat, but also, the encounter between Goku, Vegeta and Broly. It also involves the Frieza Force and the history of the Saiyans, which end up having a major connection to everything. The story content turns out to be very large scale and dramatic.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly will release in Japanese theaters on Dec. 14. A North American release is scheduled for 2019.
