'Dying Light 2' Release Time and Pre-Load Details for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X Revealed

The worldwide launch of Dying Light 2: Stay Human is just around the corner, but the game will not unlock in every region at the same time.

Techland's long-awaited zombie sequel was supposed to come out on December 7, 2021, but was pushed back a couple of months to give it a little more time in the oven. As such, it dodged the crowded holidays' slate (where it would have been competing against the likes of Call of Duty: Vanguard and Halo Infinite) and got a new release date in the typically quieter month of February.

Yet, while most years start off on a relaxed note, 2022 is utterly front-loaded with new games. Both Rainbow Six Extraction and Horizon Forbidden West were delayed to this release window, for example, and so Dying Light 2 is once again sandwiched between a pair of blockbusters (not to mention there's also Pokemon Legends: Arceus in the mix).

Those hoping to keep up with every major title in 2022 won't have much breathing room, as a lot of these huge games are releasing just a few days apart. What's more, a completionist playthrough of Dying Light 2 is estimated to take around 500 hours.

With that in mind, you're going to need to maximize your time with the game before it gets lost in 2022's hectic schedule. To give you a head start with this, Newsweek has broken down everything you need to know about when you'll finally be able to start playing Dying Light 2.

'Dying Light 2' Release Date

After being postponed from its original realise date, Dying Light 2 will now be coming out on Friday, February 4.

At launch, it will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. A Nintendo Switch version that can be streamed using cloud software (much like the upcoming Kingdom Hearts ports) is on the way as well, but this has been delayed for an indeterminate amount of time.

'Dying Light 2' Unlock Time

In terms of specific timings, there are a few variables that will affect when you are able to start playing Dying Light 2.

The first thing you will need to consider is what platform you are buying it on. If you are playing on consoles, then it will unlock at the stroke of midnight on February 4. This will be synchronized to your local time zone, meaning that you don't have to worry about figuring out any conversions.

Those who intend to experience Dying Light 2 on PC, however, will be able to get a hold of it a little earlier. The game's official Twitter account recently posted a map (which you can see here) that lists the release time for each geographic region.

For those in EST zones, the PC version of Dying Light 2 will unlock at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, February 3 (six hours before the console editions). This translates to 4 p.m. PST and 12 a.m. GMT (on February 4).

Can You Pre-Load 'Dying Light 2'?

If you are eager to play Dying Light 2 from the moment it unlocks, then the good news is that you will be able to install it ahead of time.

Obviously, you will need to have pre-ordered a digital copy of the game to be able to do this. If that applies to you, then all you need to do is head over to the relevant storefront (be that the PS Store, the Xbox Marketplace or Steam) at the appropriate time.

Here is when you can start pre-loading Dying Light 2 in North America. Please note, that timings will be different for other regions.

  • Xbox owners can pre-load the game right now (if they've purchased it digitally)
  • PC owners will be able to pre-load the game from 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, February 1
  • PlayStation owners will be able to pre-load that version of the game from 12 a.m. ET on Tuesday, February 2.

In terms of how much memory you will need to set aside, the file size for the PS5 version is the smallest at 32.5 GB.

Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X version is considerably bigger at 72GB and the PC requirement is that you have a minimum of 60GB space free.
