
As electric vehicle technology steadily improves, the amount of miles a vehicle can go on battery power is growing. Gone are the days where consumers were being asked to stomach less than 100 miles of range in order to be on the cutting edge with a new technology.
For models out this year and anticipated releases next year, the ranges are better than ever as battery chemistry advances, aerodynamics improve and charging temperature tolerances increase.
Here are the 20 electric cars, trucks and SUVs that will be on sale in 2022 with the longest ranges.
No. 20 - 2022 Polestar 2

Battery Range: 270 miles
For the 2022 model year, the electric brand owned by Volvo and Geely has increased the range on its Polestar 2 model. Available with a single motor or dual motor, the single motor option along with a 78 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery gives the sedan 265 miles of range on a single charge. Polestar charges $45,900 for that version of the car.
No. 19 (tie) - 2023 Nissan Ariya Venture+

Battery range: 300 miles
Set to go on sale in Fall 2022, the all-electric Nissan Ariya crossover will go to market with four trim levels. The lowest-priced Venture+ front-wheel drive trim, starting at $45,950, gets an estimated 300 miles of range from a 87 kilowatt-hour battery and an AC synchronous motor.
No. 19 (tie) - 2023 Cadillac Lyriq

Battery range: 300 miles
One of the first of many electric vehicles that GM is planning to release over the next 10 years, the luxury marquee's first EV is due sometime in the first half of 2022. While EPA estimates aren't available yet, the company is estimating about 300 miles of range. The Lyriq will be outfitted with a 100-kilowatt-hour battery.
No. 17 - 2022 BMW i4 eDrive40

Battery range: 301 miles
The German automaker's new electric i4 sedan, based on its new flexible EV architecture, can be had with either a single motor or two. The company estimates that the single motor and a 80.7-kilowatt-hour battery nets the driver 335 horsepower. It has an EPA-estimated range of 301 miles when equipped with 18-inch wheels and 282 miles when equipped with 19-inch wheels.
The more powerful i4 M50i had a range of 270 miles when equipped with 19-inch wheels and 227 miles when equipped with 20-inch wheels.
The i4 has a starting price of $55,400.
No. 16 - 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5

Battery range: 303 miles
Going on sale in 2022, with a subscription option available soon afterward, the Ioniq 5's single motor option tips the scales past the 300 mile range benchmark. On that rear motor with the 168 kilowatt-hour battery, the powertrain delivers 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
No. 15 - Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1

Battery range: 305 miles
Through the SUV's California Route 1 trim, the all-electric Mustang Mach-E achieves 305 miles of range when utilizing a rear-wheel drive motor. That, combined with a 91 kilowatt-hour battery, puts out 290 horsepower. The trim retails for $52,775.
No. 14 - 2022 Kia EV6 EX+

Battery range: 310 miles
Built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (e-GMP) shared between Kia and Hyundai, the EV6 is Kia's first all-electric vehicle. Available with a standard range and long range battery, the latter has an EPA-estimated 310 miles on a single charge. The long range option comes with a 77.4 kilowatt-hour battery.
No. 13 - 2022 Rivian R1S

Battery range: 316 miles
The electric vehicle startup's followup to the R1T pickup truck has an EPA-estimated range of 316 miles. Starting at $70,000, the large battery pack is standard on the Launch model.
No. 12 - 2022 BMW iX

Battery range: 324 miles
BMW plans to start deliveries of the iX in the U.S. in 2022. With a larger battery pack than its sedan counterpart at 106.3 kilowatt-hours, the base model is rated for 516 horsepower. When equipped with 20-inch wheels, the iX can go 324 miles. It has a 305-mile range with 21-inch wheels and 315 miles with the available 22-inch wheels. The iX retails starting at $83,200.
No. 11 - 2021 Tesla Model Y Long Range

Battery range: 330 miles
The ubiquitous electric vehicle company's SUV gets an estimated 330 miles in one charge if a customers orders the Long Range version for $54,690. The dual motor all-wheel drive produces 351 horsepower.
No. 10 - 2021 Tesla Model X Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive

Battery range: 332 miles
Tesla's upscale SUV is available in a dual motor all-wheel drive configuration, capable of putting out 670 horsepower. The car starts at $104,990.
No. 9 (tie) - 2022 GMC Hummer EV

Battery range: 350 miles
Built using GM's new Ultium battery technology, the erstwhile gas guzzler's name is back from the scrap heap in electric form. The Hummer EV's three electric motors are expected to produce about 1,000 horsepower. The Launch Edition of the Hummer retails for $110,295.
No. 9 (tie) - 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+

Battery range: 350 miles
The first of Mercedes' new line of all-electric offerings, the EQS 450+ base model is powered by a rear motor and a 245 kilowatt-hour battery that delivers 329 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque. The sedan is due out by the end of 2021 with a starting price of $102,310.
No. 9 (tie) - 2023 Fisker Ocean One and Extreme

Battery range: 350 Miles
One of the upstarts of the EV space, the Fisker Ocean's One and Extreme editions are dual-motor all-wheel drive models that push out 550 horsepower. The company estimates that those trims have about 350 miles of range. Both have a starting price of $68,999. Fisker also claims that available roof-mounted solar panels can provide an additional 2,000 miles of range per year in ideal conditions.
No. 6 - 2021 Tesla Model 3 Long Range

Battery range: 358 miles
Tesla's most accessible vehicle, the cheaper sedan's Long Range edition has a starting MSRP of $46,690. With the dual motor all-wheel drive setup, the Model 3 can deliver 252 horsepower. The car has a range of 358 miles.
No. 5 - 2021 Tesla Model S Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive

Battery range: 375 miles
The flagship of the Tesla fleet, the Model S sedan is EPA rated for 375 miles on a single charge under the dual motor all-wheel drive setup. Starting at $89,490, the car is capable of 670 horsepower.
No. 4 - 2022 Rivian R1T

Battery range: 400 miles
With deliveries starting this past September, Rivian became the first company to bring an electric pickup truck to the mass market. To achieve an EPA-estimated 400 miles of range, buyers will have to opt for the 180 kilowatt-hour battery. That raises the price by $10,000 to land at $77,500 for the base model.
No. 3 - 2022 Lucid Air Pure

Battery range: 406 miles
Due out in late 2022, the luxury electric car startup's more accessible Pure edition has a projected range of 406 miles. The single motor, rear-wheel drive setup is expected to put out 480 horsepower.
No. 2 - 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring

Battery range: 516 miles
On the higher end of the range of Lucid products, the Grand Touring starts at $139,000. Two electric motors and a 113 kilowatt-hour battery combine for 800 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque. Deliveries are expected once the company finishes production of its Dream Edition sedans.
No. 1 - 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition

Battery range: 520 miles
As its launch model, Lucid is making a good first impression with the highest EPA-rated range on a passenger car to date. Fully reserved at $169,000, the range-focused model of the Dream Edition's dual motor all-wheel drive setup makes for a beastly 933 horsepower and up to 1,111 pound-feet of torque.
