Giant Florida Gator Gets Police Escort As It Stops Highway Traffic

A giant alligator wandering across a highway in Florida brought traffic to a standstill, as cops tried to usher the reptile off the road.

Incredible footage of the beast was uploaded to TikTok by a passenger stuck in the traffic jam the gator was causing.

The clip, shared by Rlshama, shows the roughly five-foot-long gator lying down in the middle of the I-75, near Ocala.

The gator seems unperturbed by the numerous cars at the intersection, which were forced to brake and put their hazard lights on.

A few cars try and creep around the reptile, before a police car turns up to try and shift the giant gator.

The clip shows it finally getting up and casually sauntering across the road, as the cop car gives it an escort.

Numerous clips shared by the mom of four document its glacial progress across the road, as bystanders start filming the gator and cars slow down to get a better look.

Halfway across the road it decides it's had enough and lies back down again. A policeman waves his hand out the window, seemingly directing cars around it.

Eventually it reaches the sidewalk—hilariously using the crosswalk—with Rlshama confirming it made it to safety.

She said: "The cop helped him get to the lake across the street but I couldn't record that part since we had to go."

The clip has gone viral after being uploaded on Tuesday, with more than seven million people watching the unusual road blockage.

Rlshama captioned the clip "tell me you live in Florida without telling me," later adding "It's the slow walk for me."

Commenting on the clip, Lauren wrote: "Stop I thought it was a sink hole in the road at first."

Jaimie joked: "I like how all the turning cars aren't bothered. Just another day in Florida."

"At least he used the crosswalk," Lisa B pointed out.

Sympathizing with those stuck in the traffic jam, Guadalupe commented: "Why you late to work? Umm because there was an alligator in the road lol."

While Jeanette Morales Lu added: "My man said 'I need a police escort to water please'."

Last week a group of kids thought they found an alligator frozen beneath a lake in Wisconsin.

A clip circulating on TikTok shows children at an ice hole, at the Chain O' Lakes, convinced they've found "an Amazon alligator," after spotting an icy claw.

After some investigation, they determined it was a snapping turtle, which is known locally as Large Marge.
