In her virtual keynote at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), General Motors chair and CEO Mary Barra outlined the company's plans to further tackle the electric vehicle (EV) market with a flurry of new model launches over the coming decade.

Making good on its promise of selling the 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup by the end of 2021, GM reported that one had been sold in the month of December. The pickup is estimated for 350 miles of range and three electric motors produce 1,000 horsepower.

Cadillac's first EV, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, is expected to arrive on dealership lots halfway through this year. The model comes standard with a rear-wheel drive system paired with a 100 kilowatt-hour battery that work together to deliver 340 horsepower. Starting at $59,990, a base model Lyriq is expected to go more than 300 miles on a single charge.

An electric version of the Chevrolet Equinox, the Equinox EV, will also go on sale in late 2023. Fleet and retail versions of the model are promised. GM says that a base model Equinox EV will have a starting MSRP of about $30,000. A base model gas-powered Equinox starts at $25,800.

The 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV is due out early next year. The SUV isn't just a cabbed version of the Hummer pickup. With a wheelbase that is nearly 9 inches shorter the model offers impressive maneuverablity.

GM has also said that an EV version of the Chevrolet Blazer, a two-row, midsize SUV, is on the way. The nameplate was revived for the 2019 model year as a flashy crossover that is a departure from the rugged heritage of the Blazer name. It is slotted above the Equinox in terms of power and price point.

GM's CES pièce de résistance was the unveiling of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV. By the time it rolls off the line toward the end of 2023, the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T will have been on the market for more than a year.

Last month, the company teased the GMC Sierra EV, which will share a platform with the Silverado EV. The production timeline of this model is expected to be similar to its Chevy brother's.

Barra also announced that the company would offer heavy-duty electric trucks by 2035. In early 2021, she said that that 2035 deadline applied only to light-duty vehicles and didn't mention heavy-duty vehicles as being part of that timeline.

Rumors have been circulating that electrified versions of the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Suburban are in the works.

Before more new EVs roll off the GM assembly line, there's one major issue with their current electric car and crossover offering that they need to fix.

After a major battery recall, GM has paused retail sales of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV. In December, the company announced that it would extend a halt of production at the facility that makes both Bolt vehicles through February.

The Bolt EV has a starting price of $31,000, with an EPA-estimated range of 259 miles. Its EUV counterpart, with its 247-mile range, starts at $33,000, which is more than the proposed starting price of the larger, forthcoming Equinox EV.
