Manchester United legend David Beckham "fully expects" Jose Mourinho to be a success at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Beckham, 41, who played for United between 1992 and 2003, spoke of his excitement at Mourinho's appointment after the disappointing reigns of David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal, United's two previous managers.

"I fully expect it to work," Beckham said. "With Jose leaving Chelsea and now coming back into the Premier League with United, for me it is a great move.

"I had huge respect for Van Gaal, but it did not work out the way people expected it to. But I think at the end of the day, now it is a new start for United.

"We have had a couple over the last three or four years, which is not the Manchester United style, who are used to a manager like Sir Alex Ferguson being in there for so many years."

Beckham, who moved to Real Madrid at the conclusion of his United career, is now mostly involved in football in the United States—he set up his Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise with the group, Miami Beckham United in 2014.

Mourinho, meanwhile, has taken his United squad to China on their pre-season tour. His first competitive fixture is against defending English Premier League champion Leicester City on August 8 in the FA Community Shield.
